Jim Vance is an elite endurance sports coach, author, and sport technology and training consultant based in San Diego, California. He is the personal coach 2016 US Olympic triathlete Ben Kanute, guiding him to performances that include: 
- American Record holder - Ironman distance, 7:37:01 (Challenge Roth 2023)
- 2x Silver Medalist at the 70.3 World Championships (2017, 2022)
- 4x Escape from Alcatraz Triathlon Champion
- Island House Triathlon Champion

Jim has written two books – Triathlon 2.0 and Run with Power, and co-edited Triathlon Science with best selling training author, Joe Friel.

After a collegiate career as a 4 year letter-winning cross country and track athlete at the University of Nebraska, where he earned his degree in physical and health education, Vance turned to triathlon, where he won two amateur world championships, and trained at the Olympic Training Center. Later he moved to Ironman racing where he had many top finishes, including a third-place finish at Ironman Florida in 2006.

In February of 2016, Jim released the book Triathlon 2.0, which teaches athletes how to use technological training tools like power meters and GPS, HR monitors, to better coach themselves for long course triathlon racing, based on their age, gender and goals. In 2013, Jim co-edited the book, Triathlon Science with best selling endurance training author Joe Friel. In May of 2016, Jim released the book, Run With Power, the first book to tackle how to effectively use the new technology of power meters for running.
Jim continues to work with new companies bringing technology to the sporting world, as well as athletes all over the world, at all different levels, from beginner to elite, in swimming, cycling, running and triathlon. There are few individuals in the world with the teaching background, elite athlete experience, and coaching experience with elites, amateurs and juniors, as well as knowledge of training, like Jim Vance.
